Purslane

Purslane prefers a full sun, warm, and rather dry location. It is very heat and drought tolerant, but sensitive to frost.

The soil should be sandy, loose, and very well-drained. A neutral to slightly alkaline pH value between approximately 6.0 and 7.5 is ideal; waterlogging should absolutely be avoided.

The plant grows as a low-growing ground cover or succulent perennial and usually reaches a height of only 10 to 30 cm. Depending on the species, it is used as an edible leafy vegetable (e.g., Portulaca oleracea) or valued as an ornamental plant for its colorful flowers.
