Natal plum

Natal plum

(Natal Plum)

The Natal plum prefers a sunny to semi-shady, warm, and sheltered location in a subtropical to tropical climate. It is moderately drought and salt tolerant, but only slightly frost tolerant (short-term down to about -2 to -3 °C for older plants).

The soil should be sandy to loamy, well-draining, and rather nutrient-poor to moderately nutrient-rich. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between about 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal; waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as a dense, evergreen shrub or small tree, usually reaching 1 to 5 meters in height. It typically bears its first fruits after about 2 to 4 years under good conditions.
