Madagascar Periwinkle
(Catharanthus roseus)
The Madagascar periwinkle prefers a sunny, warm, and sheltered location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It only requires moderate watering and tolerates short dry periods well, while waterlogging should absolutely be avoided.
Ideal is a loose, well-draining, and rather nutrient-poor to moderately fertile soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH value of about 5.5 to 7.0. Soils that are too rich in nutrients or too heavy can impair growth and flowering.
The plant does not produce edible fruits, but rather numerous small flowers in white, pink, or purple tones. It usually reaches a height of about 30 to 80 cm and grows as a bushy, evergreen ornamental plant or small perennial.
