Turmeric

Turmeric prefers a warm, semi-shady to sunny and sheltered location with high humidity. It requires regular watering, with the soil being consistently moist but well-drained.

An ideal soil is humus-rich, loose, and nutrient-rich with a slightly acidic pH of about 5.5 to 6.5. Waterlogging should be avoided as the rhizomes are susceptible to rot.

The intensely yellow-orange colored rhizomes are used and can be harvested after about 8 to 10 months. The plant usually reaches a height of about 60 to 100 cm and grows as a perennial, herbaceous spice and medicinal plant.
