Garlic Vine / Mansoa alliacea

Garlic Vine / Mansoa alliacea

(Garlic Vine)

Garlic vine prefers a sunny to semi-shady, warm, and very sheltered location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and grows best with high humidity and consistently warm temperatures.

The soil should be humous, loose, and very well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal, regular moisture is preferred, and waterlogging should be avoided.

The plant grows as a strongly vining climber and can form shoots several meters long. It is primarily known for its violet to lavender-colored flowers and the garlic-like scent of its leaves. In some regions, the leaves are also traditionally used as a spice or medicinal plant.
