Japanese Mondo Grass

The Japanese Snake's Beard prefers a semi-shady to shady location with consistently mild temperatures and a sheltered position. It requires regular watering, with the soil always being slightly moist but well-draining.

An ideal soil is rich in humus, loose, and well-drained, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH value of about 5.5 to 7.0. Waterlogging should be avoided, as the roots are sensitive.

The plant does not produce edible fruits, but small, bluish-black ornamental berries. It usually reaches a height of about 10 to 20 cm and grows as an evergreen, grass-like groundcover in dense clumps.
