Guayaibí
(Patagonula americana)
The Guayaibí prefers a sunny to partially shaded location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It requires regular watering during the establishment phase but can tolerate short dry periods once established.
Ideally, the soil should be deep, fertile, and well-drained, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH of about 5.5 to 7.0. Waterlogging should be avoided to promote healthy growth and good root development.
The tree is primarily valued for its high-quality wood and its beautiful shady canopy. It typically reaches a height of about 15 to 30 meters and develops a broad, dense crown with vigorous growth.
