Dragon fruit
(Selenicereus undatus)
The dragon fruit prefers a sunny to semi-shady, warm, and very sheltered location in a tropical to subtropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and grows best with stable warmth and some climbing support.
The soil should be very well-drained, sandy to humus-rich, and rather nutrient-rich. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 7.0 is ideal; waterlogging should be avoided at all costs.
The plant grows as a climbing cactus and can form shoots several meters long. It usually bears its first fruits after about 1.5 to 3 years under good conditions.
