Cupuaçu
(Theobroma grandiflorum)
The cupuaçu prefers a semi-shady to sunny, warm, and very humid location in a tropical climate. It is sensitive to frost and requires high humidity and consistent warmth.
The soil should be rich in humus, deep, and well-draining. A slightly acidic pH value between about 5.0 and 6.5 is ideal; regular moisture is important, and waterlogging should be avoided.
The plant grows as a tree and usually reaches 8 to 20 meters in height. It typically bears its first fruits after about 3 to 5 years under good conditions.
