Calamondin

Calamondin

(Citrus microcarpa)

The calamondin prefers a sunny to fully sunny, warm, and sheltered location. It is adapted to tropical and subtropical climatic conditions and tolerates only light frost. It should be protected at temperatures below freezing.

The soil should be rich in humus, loose, and well-draining. A slightly acidic to neutral pH value between approximately 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal. The plant prefers consistent soil moisture but does not tolerate waterlogging. During prolonged dry periods, it should be watered regularly.

The calamondin grows as a small, evergreen tree or shrub and usually reaches a height of 2 to 5 meters. Under good site conditions, it typically begins to bear fruit after 2 to 3 years and produces aromatic, small orange fruits throughout the year.
