Bergamot

Bergamot

(Citrus bergamia)

Bergamot prefers a warm, sunny, and sheltered location with plenty of light. It requires regular watering, with the soil kept consistently moist but very well-drained.

A loose, humus-rich, and nutrient-dense soil with a slightly acidic pH of about 5.5 to 6.5 is ideal. Waterlogging must be strictly avoided, as the roots are sensitive to it.

Under optimal conditions, it begins to bear fruit after about 3 to 5 years, producing aromatic, yellowish-green fruits whose peel is particularly prized for its intense bergamot aroma. The plant usually reaches a height of about 2 to 5 meters and grows as an evergreen, compact citrus tree.
