Avocado
(Persea americana)
Avocados prefer a warm, sunny to semi-shady, and sheltered location. They require regular watering, with the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged.
An ideal soil is loose, humus-rich, and very well-draining, with a slightly acidic pH of about 5.5 to 6.5. Good drainage is crucial to prevent root diseases and promote healthy growth.
Due to grafting, they often begin bearing fruit after approximately 2 to 4 years, producing fruits characteristic of their variety. Depending on the variety and pruning, the tree typically reaches a height of about 3 to 8 meters and develops a dense, evergreen canopy.

Hass: Type A - Medium-sized, dark purple skin, creamy, nutty, and aromatic. May – August
Anis: Type B - Small, green skin, sweetish, creamy, and aromatic. February – April
Pinkerton: Type A - Large, green skin, creamy, mild, and low in fiber. June – September
Pepino: Type B - Small to medium-sized, seedless, smooth green skin, mild, creamy, and soft. March – May
Geada: Type B - Large, green skin, sweet, juicy, and creamy. January – March
Quintal: Type B - Very large, green skin, mild, creamy, and productive. March – June
Fortuna: Type B - Large, green skin, slightly sweet, creamy, and soft. January – March
Breda: Type B - Medium-sized, green skin, creamy, mild, and aromatic. July – September
Margarida: Type A - Large, green skin, buttery, sweet, and creamy. April – July
Manteiga: Type B - Medium-sized, green skin, very creamy, mild, and buttery-soft. February – May
Avocado Types A and B: The bloom types differ in the opening time of the blossoms. For better pollination and higher yields, it is ideal to plant an A and a B variety together.
