Appearance and Origin
The porcelain flower, known as Hoya carnosa, originally hails from the tropical regions of Asia and Australia. It belongs to the Asclepiadaceae family and has secured a place in many homes and gardens due to its decorative flowers and low maintenance requirements.

Growth and Appearance
This climbing plant can be cultivated both as a hanging and as a climbing plant. It produces long, trailing stems that cling to supports with the help of its aerial roots. The leaves are fleshy, oval, and shiny green, often with silvery spots. The flowers are the plant’s highlight: they appear in dense umbels, are star-shaped, white to pink, and have a waxy texture that gives them their characteristic porcelain-like appearance.

Cultivation and Care
Porcelain flowers prefer bright but indirect light conditions. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as it can burn the leaves. The soil should be well-drained and kept slightly moist. During the growing season, it is advisable to water the plant regularly and occasionally provide it with a balanced liquid fertilizer. In winter, watering should be reduced. Once established, Hoya carnosa is relatively easy to care for and requires only occasional pruning to maintain its shape.

Blooming Period
The blooming period is mainly in late spring through summer. During this time, the plant produces its characteristic flower umbels, which can last for several weeks. The flowers emit a pleasant, sweet fragrance, especially in the evening hours. It is important not to cut off the withered flower clusters, as new flowers often appear in the same spots.

Pollination
In their natural environment, the flowers are pollinated by insects such as moths and flies. Indoors, pollination can be more challenging unless there is access to suitable pollinators. For seed production and propagation, cross-pollination is necessary, which means it is ideally recommended to keep multiple plants.
