Description

Appearance and Origin
The King Begonia (Begonia Rex) is a popular indoor plant known for its striking leaves and diverse color patterns. Originally from the humid forests of India and Malaysia, its leaves are large, asymmetrical, and often highly curled, featuring a variety of colors and patterns, including silver, green, red, pink, and purple. These characteristics make it an extremely decorative indoor plant.

Growth & Blooming Period
It’s a compact plant with slow growth, reaching a height of about 30-50 centimeters and does not produce typical flowers like many other Begonia species. Instead, it produces small, inconspicuous flower clusters that often hide among the leaves. However, the main attraction lies in its striking leaves, which are present throughout the year.

Cultivation and Care
For optimal growth, the plant requires a warm, humid location with bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can cause burns on the leaves. The soil should be well-draining, and watered regularly but not excessively to avoid waterlogging. During the growing season in spring and summer, the plant can be fertilized every few weeks with a weak fertilizer to promote growth.

Pollination
King Begonia is typically not pollinated for its flowers, as it usually does not produce conspicuous flowers. If it does bloom, the flowers are usually pollinated by insects such as bees or butterflies. However, the main attraction of the King Begonia lies in its striking leaves, not its flowers.
