Description

Origin
The fiddle leaf fig, botanically known as Ficus pandurata, is a species of plant in the Moraceae family. Originally from the tropical regions of Asia, particularly from India and Bangladesh. Nowadays, it is widely distributed in many tropical and subtropical regions of the world and is frequently cultivated as an ornamental plant.

Growth, Appearance, and Characteristics
It is an evergreen tree that typically reaches a height of 2 to 3 meters when grown indoors. However, outdoors it can grow much taller. The leaves of the fiddle leaf fig are large, oval to heart-shaped, and have a shiny, dark green color. The characteristic veins of the leaves give them a distinctive appearance reminiscent of a violin’s fingerboard.

Cultivation and Care
The tree thrives best in a bright location with indirect light, although it also tolerates some shade. It requires regular watering, but the soil should dry slightly between waterings to avoid waterlogging. The plant should be fertilized regularly, especially during the growing period in spring and summer. Occasional pruning may be necessary to maintain the desired shape and size.

Use
It is commonly used as an indoor plant indoors, where it is popular for its attractive appearance and relatively simple care. It is suitable for decorating living spaces, offices, and public areas. Additionally, the fiddle leaf fig can also be grown in tropical gardens and outdoor landscaping, where it is used as a shade tree or decorative element.

Pollination
The fiddle leaf fig produces small, inconspicuous flowers that are pollinated by tiny insects. Pollination occurs by wind or by the plant’s own movement. The fruits of the fiddle leaf fig are edible, although they are generally not significant when the plant is grown as an ornamental. In its natural habitat, the fruits may be consumed by birds or other animals that then spread the seeds.
