Appearance and Origin
The Chinese Star Jasmine, scientifically known as Trachelospermum jasminoides, is an evergreen climbing plant from the Apocynaceae family. Originally native to East Asia, particularly in China and Japan, this plant has become a popular ornamental plant in many temperate climates due to its attractive flowers and sweet fragrance. The leaves are leathery and shiny green, with an elliptical or elongated shape. The flowers are star-shaped, creamy white, and emit a pleasant, sweet fragrance, which is particularly intense when they bloom in large quantities.
Growth & Blooming Period
Star Jasmine is a fast-growing climbing plant that can reach up to 6 meters in height. It requires a sturdy support to cling and grow. The blooming period typically extends from spring to summer, with the flowers appearing in large clusters, filling the space with their captivating scent. The plant can bloom for many months under suitable conditions and is particularly striking when growing on a sunny wall or fence.
Cultivation and Care
It prefers a sunny to semi-shaded location and well-draining, humus-rich soil. It cannot tolerate waterlogging and requires regular watering, especially during dry periods.
